About Us

playing the piano, learn to play piano

Studio Story

We hope to inspire others to enjoy playing the piano like we do.

Ally started going to houses to teach piano in 2018, when she was still a student at Nanyang Technological University. Upon graduating from University, she realised that she loves sharing the knowledge that she has and wanted to help others get better at playing the piano. Seeing her students get proficient at reading music scores and play complex pieces makes her proud. She hopes to be able to influence people to take charge of their musical journey and enjoy the process.

Our Founder

Allison is the founder of Ally’s Piano Studio. She specialises in using Cognitive and Behavioural Psychology in creating a curriculum which enhances students’ cognitive abilities and gives them the focus needed to succeed in life. Having learnt the piano at the age of 7, Allison holds ABRSM Grade 8 Practical and Theory in Classical Piano. She is also a degree holder at Nanyang Technological University majoring in Psychology, a Dean’s Lister in her field of subject.

The Piano Way

The Piano Way is an innovative teaching methodology developed by Allison, combining her expertise in music education with her professional background in psychology. This unique approach goes beyond traditional piano instruction, focusing on the profound connection between musical learning and mental wellbeing. Rather than simply teaching students to play notes, The Piano Way nurtures the whole person, helping students develop enhanced focus, emotional regulation, and stress reduction skills that extend far beyond the music studio into every aspect of their daily life.

Drawing from psychological principles, Allison has crafted techniques that help students manage performance anxiety, build confidence, and develop sustained concentration abilities. Her methodology incorporates mindful practice strategies and cognitive approaches that not only accelerate musical progress but also equip students with valuable life skills. Students who learn through The Piano Way often report improved academic performance, better stress management, and increased self-confidence, creating not just skilled pianists but more focused, resilient, and emotionally balanced individuals.

“Before I joined Allison’s class, I had no knowledge about how to play piano, how to read notes or no coordination at all. I felt really happy when I was able to play a song using both my hands.”
